What is metabolic surgery?
Metabolic surgery refers to bariatric procedures — primarily gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy — used specifically to treat obesity-related metabolic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidaemia. The metabolic benefits often occur independently of, and earlier than, the weight loss itself.
