Laparoscopic
Oncological Surgery

Advanced laparoscopic techniques enable oncologically sound resections of gastrointestinal tumours with minimised trauma — supporting faster recovery and earlier return to adjuvant treatment when needed.

Laparoscopic approach to cancer surgery

Minimally invasive (laparoscopic) oncological surgery has become the standard of care for many gastrointestinal cancers. It achieves the same oncological margins and lymph node clearance as open surgery, while offering patients less blood loss, reduced complication rates, shorter hospital stays, and faster return to strength — enabling earlier commencement of chemotherapy or radiotherapy where indicated.

Procedures performed

  • Laparoscopic colon resection (right/left hemicolectomy, sigmoid resection)
  • Laparoscopic rectal resection (anterior resection, TME)
  • Laparoscopic gastric resection (gastrectomy for gastric cancer)
  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallbladder pathology
  • Laparoscopic splenectomy
  • Diagnostic laparoscopy and staging

Multidisciplinary approach

Cancer treatment decisions are made within a multidisciplinary tumour board framework involving oncology, radiology, and pathology. Dr. Katar coordinates surgical planning with the broader oncology team to ensure each patient receives an individualised, guideline-concordant treatment plan.
